BUMP + BEYOND: IRON BOOSTING SMOOTHIE
Starting your day with a nutrient rich smoothie can make all the difference in supporting your postnatal body to recover. Not only are smoothies quicker to repair than your average meal, they are also easier to consume whilst you are feeding or carrying your baby in comparison to eating the same quantity of whole fruit and vegetables.
It’s normal for your iron levels to decrease slightly after giving birth. However, these levels are likely to return to normal as you recover from birth provided you eat a balanced diet with plenty of iron rich foods. It’s important to replenish your stores as your body requires iron to produce haemoglobin (which transports oxygen around your body).
Boost your iron stores with this iron rich smoothie, which not only tastes delicious, but it also contains fresh orange to enhance iron absorption.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 raw medium beetroot (peeled)
1 small banana
1 medium orange peeled
150ml cold water
Handful of spinach
3 dates
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
Sprig of fresh mint
Method:
Simply pop all the ingredients in a high power blender and blitz until smooth.
Top tip: Bulk prepare the banana and beetroot and pop in the freezer. This will speed up the making process and will also make a creamer smoothie!
