TOP 5 WAYS TO FIND JOY IN THE EVERYDAY

Finding Joy doesn’t mean you have to wait for those big, life changing moments of Joy - a marriage, a birth, a big trip, a graduation. Those milestones that live in our future and in our past and that make up the highlight reel of our lives. In fact we can choose to find joy in the everyday, in those ordinary moments and the smallest of things. “My 20 month old little boy Freddie has encouraged me to relook at those seemingly mundane moments of life in a new and fresh light, whether it’s brushing our teeth together, jumping in puddles, looking at the worm he found in the garden or even doing the laundry. We have a choice to choose joy every single day, and tuning into these moments of joy is a form of mindfulness.” Says Co-founder Jenny.

All these moments make up our time here on earth - so how can we turn a seemingly mundane day into a joyful one. Below Jenny shares her Top 5 Ways to Find Joy in the everyday:

  1. Grow Your Gratitude

Gratitude can help us to find joy in the smallest of moments and I believe it can attract more joy into your life. A gratitude practise can be as simple as expressing thanks. When you wake up in the morning, notice if there’s anything that makes you smile - are you thankful for your duvet, a cup of tea, being able to have a hot shower. Write it down or mentally say to yourself ‘I am grateful’ - how does it make you feel? What sensations do you feel in your body?. 

2. Look To Nature

Connect with the natural world. Feel the earth beneath you, the way air feels on your skin, the silence around you. Savour the small moments. When you step outside today, Challenge yourself today to find beauty in everything you see.

3. Slow Down

Slowing down is a conscious choice, and not always an easy one, but it leads to a greater appreciation for life and a greater level of happiness. When we slow down we can begin to become more present in the moment and notice the smallest things. Put your phone down, savour the food you eat, slow down in simple tasks and take a moment to be in this very moment. 

4. Just Play

Just add your favourite music, dance and sing to mundane tasks, such as doing the washing up it can really make all the difference. Just look at young children and how they find the magic in the most seemingly boring or mundane activities by using their imaginations. If we as adults can tap into even a fraction of that we can make those unfavourable tasks the most joyful of our day.

5. Create Connections

According to psychologists, if you spend much of your time with happy people, there are high chances that you’ll also be happy and connected to them. So make a phone call, send the email, write the text message and meet your positive crowd for a coffee to spark that daily joy.
