ROSS’ TOP TIPS FOR HOME WORKOUTS

New Instructor, Ross Vides

In January, we are welcoming a brand-new trainer to the Balance + Glo team, Ross Vides. Ross is a Level 3 Personal Trainer, holds degree in Sports Science from Durham University, is a former GB U21 Hockey Player and is soon to be heading off to Army Officer Training in Sandhurst.

Ross’ Strength & Conditioning classes are a great accompaniment to your running/sporting schedule as he specialises in bullet-proofing the body for sport. Born in South Africa, Ross grew up on the amazing African coast but now is a regular Isle of Wight visitor. He loves a dip at Freshwater Bay, playing golf on the cliff edge at Freshwater Golf Course and running down the Yar Path.

Ross has filmed a 6-part Strength & Conditioning on demand series for The Online Studio and we asked his top tips for home workouts:

Q. What equipment would you recommend buying?

Buying equipment can seem daunting when viewing the extortionate prices of plates and barbells. However, there are some fantastic options that are far more affordable. My recommendations are to invest in tube bands, larger resistance bands and yoga blocks.

Resistance Bands (from £14)

Yoga Blocks (from £6)

Q. Is working out at home really effective?

Working out at home can be just as effective as working out in the gym. They are distinctly different and can focus on slightly different things. That being said, the benefits of working out at home will no doubt improve your athletic ability for sport and exercise as well as your performance in the gym. It is a great, cost effective, quick and easy way to boost physical performance and I strongly recommend including at least one of these sessions in per week, even if you go to the gym for the majority of your sessions.

Q. What are your top Strength exercises for runners?

Runners are very unique in the sense that they predominantly move in one plane of motion. This means that it is quite easy to develop imbalances. I recommend exercises that are distinctly different from running. My favourites are: Bent over rows, single leg calf raisers, single leg RDL’s and dish.

Members can catch Ross’ program on the On Demand Library in January and join him LIVE every Friday morning at 7:30am. We are running a FREE 30 Day Trial for January only across all membership plans so it couldn’t be a more perfect time to join the Balance + Glo family as we Move Together.
